Rusch takes His first Expert Win
Christian Sport Bike Racing Mid-West competed at the fourth round of the CCS Championship at Gateway International Raceway in St. Louis, Missouri. Saturday was a Practice day only which allowed Eddie some needed time to study the 1.6 mile road course. Sunday morning held one practice session and Rusch was on top of the lap time charts.
Race 1 was the GT Lights race in which Eddie brought home a solid Second place. Eddie had the lead for much of the race but was just barely bested at the finish line. Eddie was more motivated than ever to snag his first expert victory because he had let race one slip through his grasps.
Race 2 was Lightweight Superbike; Edís start was stunted because he was on the second row instead of the first. Eddie went into turn one fourth and was held up by two riders until the white flag lap. Rusch was within striking distance of his first expert win; Rob Oliva (AMA Pro Racing Veteran) was the only man in the way. As Rusch started to set up the last lap pass disaster struck. Rain started to fall, making the track very slippery. By the time Eddie had realized this, the rear tire broke loose coming out of turn two and Eddie barely saved a high side crash but was slammed down on the low side from the inertia of his save. Fortunately Eddie was okay from his first ever crash. As the bike was brought back to the pits Jon, Don and Michael Pruitt went to work to ready the bike for the next race. More rain fell as the final race approached and as Eddie headed out on the track the race director refused to call a wet race therefore causing Rusch to have to ride in the wet on dry tires. This would also be Eddieís first ever rain race.
As the race progressed Eddie stayed right on the rear of the leader. He waited until the last lap to pull off the pass giving him his first ever expert win!
Don Elfstrom held chapel service and preached about sin and forgiveness. He taught out the gospel of Paul in Chapter seven. Twenty people were in attendance including a racer who got his first ever win and came by and thanked Don for his lesson in which he gave credit to the sermon for his victory.
