Setting up for a curve at Jennings!
So how do you tell someone that there is a loving God who has a plan for their life, when a bro is going through a really tough time and the future does not look good. Such was the situation I found myself in as I walked down the paddock towards a young racer who just came into the pit and was pulling off his helmet. He had shared with me the day before that he was facing a very difficult situation.
A post on the local bike forum brought me to Jennings with a Daytona bro who was doing his first trackday and wanted someone to go with him. This was a great opportunity to build a friendship, and he was stoked to use my stands and warmers. I tossed his bike on my trailer and we rolled out. The CSBRacing banner was raised, and I served as pit crew, helping my friend and making new ones, wrenching on bikes and filling in as needed throughout the paddock. But I soon met this racer whose young life was being turned upside down by circumstances beyond his control. I wanted to tell him it would be alrightÖbut it might not be. I was speechless as I stared into the pain and confusion he was experiencing, and I asked him if he would be at the track the next day as well. We parted ways and that night back in my tent, as the small heater chased away the below freezing temps, I prayedÖlonger than I had prayed before at the track. ìHow, Lord, do I let this bro know that You are in control, and there is hope?î
So now Iím standing in front of him, having felt in my heart to go speak with him again, and clueless as to what to say. ìWalk with me.î Was all that came out, and to my surprise he set his drink and gloves aside and we walked around the track office to the infield. As we neared a large tree covered in Spanish moss, I actually felt the words forming, and not only did the Lord reveal himself as active and applicable in this particular situation, but challenged the racer to be a source of strength to other young men in the midst of his trial.
In full leathers, under that tree, with bike engines screaming in the background through turn 12, he prayed to accept ChristÖand things are gonna be okay.
