Knees on the ground!
Daytona Beach, FL
December 20-21, 2008

So what does a roadracing chaplain do during the off-season when there is no one to preach to? He finds a way to make new roadracers. More than 40 street riding bros, and a couple sisters, gathered to learn the ways of the jedi, riding a tight course lined with Wal-mart cones, on a small church parking lot in Daytona Beach, Fl. The CSBRacing team partnered with the Christian Sportbike Association to host a Knee Draggin Clinic to teach men how to survive lifeís curves, on the street, and in our personal lives when we are headed for a crash.

The biggest obstacle that got between a knee puck and the pavementÖMisconceptions. The ideas that the slicks wont hold, the speed is too great, the lean is too far, all of these ìideasî created doubt, and doubt kept the sweet sensation of polishing the pucks from being experienced by some. Itís interesting that one of the greatest accounts of doubt we have in the Bible comes from a very unlikely source, John the Baptist. Thatís right, the same man who spent his life challenging men to prepare their hearts for the coming of Christ, found himself in a situation where life did not work out the way he expected. And sitting in a dark prison cell, he sent word to Jesus, asking if He really was the Savior of mankind. John did not lose faith, but turned to the only one that could provide an answer for his doubts, Jesus the Christ, and for us today, Jesus is still the only One to seek in our times of despair and trial.

Thankfully many of the bros were able to trust the instruction and get a knee down for the first time. We had 7 crashes on the ktm525 and 1 broken ankle, but everyone, including the injured, left with big smiles.

Between sessions we talked, that ìideasî can have consequences. Just like the knees that came so close to touchdown, but were held back by the thoughts that there is no way this will work, our society has the idea that we can exist without God, and the consequences of this way of thinking are very evident in the violent crime, collapse of families, rampant immorality, greed and sexual abuse of children that we are experiencing in our nation.

As the daylight faded to darkness we packed up the bikes and gear, leaving a group of young men with a better understanding of the machines they love, and a challenge to consider the consequences of this life without God. Jesus replied to John the Baptist in the language of the prophets, so that John would readily recognize this as a sign that Jesus is the divine Son of God. So to, will Christ speak to us through Godís Word, the Bible, in a way we will readily recognize, when we set aside the time to listen.

Thanks Christian Sportbike Association for donating the motorcycle and labor to make this outreach a success! Happy New Year to all.
